The week before skiing is always the longest week of the year. All I can think about, during this week, is stomping all of my tricks, or getting that one perfect powder day. It is the week that I can’t wait to see all of my friends and meet some new ones. During that week all I can think of is getting to do the thing I love most. It pumps me up so much that I start sweating when I think, “I get to ski on Friday!”
On Wednesday, which is a half day of school, and the last day of the week because of the Thanksgiving break, I stare at the clock waiting for the final bell of the day to ring. I get so anxious that I start tapping my pen or my foot. Once I get home I have so much adrenaline coursing through my veins that I just want to scream. Even though skiing is two days away, I still have to make it through Thanksgiving dinner. When we get up to Clifton Park I jump out of our car and go inside to see my grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. When dinner starts, I think of what I am thankful for. I am thankful for my parents teaching me how to ski. I am also thankful for them taking me skiing every weekend and all of the equipment I have. Opening day at Whiteface is the day after Thanksgiving which is fitting because then the skiers can be thankful of what they get to do in the winter. After Thanksgiving dinner, we have dessert, clean up, rest, and start the journey to Jay. When we finally get on the road I just stare out the window and listen to my music thinking, “Yes, it is finally here.” Eventually I fall asleep. Once we stop the car in Jay, my head pops up and I jump out of the car. I want to go to bed so skiing comes quicker.
Usually when I wake up the day skiing starts, I forget where I am. When I remember, I jump out of bed, take a shower as fast as possible, and eat a healthy breakfast. Once I get to the mountain, I get a huge grin on my face. When we get out of the lodge, we head over to the Gondola. My friends Gavin, Josh, Mason, Anthony an I usually go up the gondola together. Gavin, Mason, and I all take skiing very seriously, while Josh and Anthony are serious snowboarders. Some of the little guys in our group are Camden, Kaylen , and Max. Hopefully this year there will be more kids that we all can help get to a higher level of freestyle. When I am looking down the trail I get so excited. I am nervous at the same time because I know that I haven’t skied in 6 months. When I start skiing down it takes me a couple turns to get back in the groove, but when I do, I start crusin’. I can’t wait until I have that feeling when I am going down the hill.
